MY EXPERIENCE IN THE STORYTELLING FESTIVAL

First, I would like to start telling you that at the beginning it was difficult for my group to choose what story to use for the storytelling festival. Nevertheless, after reflecting a little bit the decision was “the masque of the red death” of Edgard Allan Poe. Being honest as a group we had a little shame since we had to dress like the characters of this story, but an important fact is that in this story appeared a masque dance and we thought before representing the story that we wouldn’t show a lot our visages. Then, that could be one of the reasons why we chose this story.

Second, I have to say that it wasn’t easy neither for me nor my group given that as you know we needed clothing and objects so as to dress up alike the characters of the stunning story of Mr. Poe. In addition, it was complicated the materials to recreate the scenario. In my personal case I wanted to use a special hat that I couldn’t find anywhere, so I send it to make it. I bought a smoking since I was going to represent a character being one of the nobles invited by Prince Prospero in order to run away from the mortal illness called “the masque of the red death”.

Third, it took a little time choosing in which place the storytelling would be recorded owing to we were discussing if it was correct to record the scenes individually and join the video after, or to set a date and the whole group record the video in a specific place. As a result, we decided to record the video in the house of one of the members of the group. The travel to arrive there it wasn’t very short, but it was amazing to know a little more about San Salvador.

Fourth, the day of recording arrived and at the begging I was nervous because at least in my case I had to interpret 2 characters. I started developing the character of a poor man that got ill with the masque of the red death and cry out because of the pain and died emanating blood from the pores. I really didn’t like to do that given that I put false blood in my arms and face in order to represent that I suffered the illness of that Epoque, but at the moment to try to get rid of it was very difficult and I ended a little red from my face like if I were a tomato.

Fifth, my favorite part was when dressing as a noble in which I used my hat, smoking and masque. I have to admit that was weird to develop a dance that we invented there. On the other hand, I loved the scenario given that we had different parts of the house in which we could record like tables, doors, chairs, backyard, staircases, etc. Finally, I really appreciate have carried out this activity with my classmates and I will never forget the important lesson that this story let me and is that doesn’t care if you are rich or poor when a mortal illness appear your money won’t save you.
